Now that summer is officially here we thought it would be a good time to share some top?tips with you on how to stay hydrated at work. 1. In the summer we naturally sweat more so we need to drink more; but don_t just rely on your thirst. By the time you are thirsty, chances are mild dehydration will have already set in so keep drinking throughout the day, and this is especially important if you have a strenuous job. 2. One good way of telling if you are hydrated is the colour of your urine. A dark yellow colour is an indication that your urine is concentrated and, therefore, you are hydrated; so head to the water cooler. 3. Drinking a glass of chilled water (not a fizzy drink) at regular intervals helps to reduce the risk of heat stress and work-related accidents by keeping you alert and focused. 4. If you're a man you should aim to drink around 2.5 litres of water a day, and women about 2 litres per day. However, eating more fruit and vegetables is also a great way to stay hydrated as they both tend to have a high water content which makes them a great option for helping to meet your hydration needs. 5. Drinking small amounts of water at regular intervals also helps to reduce headaches caused by dehydration. 6. If your work involves operating machinery or making decisions affecting your safety, don_t risk dehydration because this can affect your alertness and your reaction speed _ be sure to stay well-hydrated at all times. Have a great summer!
