Discover the Health Benefits of Our Wenlock Spring Mineral Water
Have you ever wondered where the water in our coolers actually comes from? Our water comes all the way from the Wenlock Spring in Shropshire, located beside the Wenlock Edge in an area of outstanding beauty. This means that our water contains plenty of added minerals which provide a whole host of health benefits.
The Wenlock Edge
The Wenlock Edge is a geologically famous limestone escarpment created over 400 million years ago. It is 15 miles long and stretches between Much Wenlock and Craven Arms. The Wenlock Edge is made up of Silurian limestone, which was originally formed in a shallow, warm, clear, subtropical sea, similar to parts of the Caribbean today, and originates from the south of the equator. This warm sea was rich in dissolved calcium carbonate and supported reef-building animals which are found today fossilised within the rock. During the Ice Age, this Silurian limestone was pushed and moved from south of the equator to south Shropshire, where it is now a protected Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI).
The water in the Wenlock Spring filters naturally through this rock strata, giving it a unique blend of minerals. These include calcium and selenium, giving it that refreshing and delicately sweet taste. The underground source emerges from 60 metres deep and travels through stainless steel pipes into the bottling hall, where Wenlock Spring is bottled using the latest technology.
Benefits of Mineral Water
Mineral water that comes from natural underground reservoirs and springs are high in several essential minerals including calcium, magnesium and sodium. Due to this unique composition of organic compounds, natural mineral water can offer health benefits. At its core, mineral water provides the body with minerals that it can’t create itself.
Adequate calcium intake is vital for maintaining bone health throughout life, as it aids bone development and maintenance. Mineral water has been found to contribute towards calcium intake and studies have shown that our bodies can absorb calcium from mineral water as effectively calcium from dairy products. There is evidence that suggests that those who regularly drink calcium-rich mineral water have significantly higher bone mass density than those who drink water with lower levels of calcium.
Research suggests that inadequate levels of magnesium in the body may lead to high blood pressure, which is a prominent risk factor in heart disease. A study has shown that drinking mineral water with high magnesium levels can significantly lower blood pressure.
Having enough magnesium in your diet can prevent constipation and improve the overall health of the digestive system. Magnesium draws water into the intestines, which improves stool consistency and relaxes the intestinal muscles, supporting regular bowel movements. According to a study, drinking mineral water containing magnesium sulphate and sodium sulphate can lead to more frequent bowel movements and overall improved quality of life for people with constipation.
Regulating Blood Circulation
Mineral water that contains calcium, magnesium and potassium can help promote good blood circulation. It can also regulate the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat.
