Remember when we discussed our Christmas plans ahead of the holidays and expounded on just how many people the turkey needed to feed? Christmas excesses were notched up during the festive period, then nursed with a black coffee after our guests have gone. This year, all that has changed, and whatever your plans are for the holidays, we are all hoping that Christmas 2021 will be entirely different.
Got a New Year’s Resolution?
We’re used to losing the will to continue with our resolutions, and whilst the stalwarts among us may be running 5km a day, topping their 10,000 steps or only taking the stairs, the majority of us are already back in our usual routines by the middle of January. This year especially, hygiene has been at the forefront of our lives globally, with the pandemic proving that we can all be affected, wherever we live. We’re mindful of the value of clean water at Countrywise and so we continue to support the Just a Drop charity which brings sustainable safe water, sanitation and hygiene projects to communities, transforming lives in developing countries. You can find out more about this fantastic charity here.
This last year has shown us that being kind should be on everyone’s list – not just for 31 December. We have chosen to raise funds for a borehole project in Kalungwishi village in Zambia. The project will provide clean drinking water for the village whose inhabitants currently have no access to safe water, resulting in waterborne disease striking every week. Our target is to raise £5,000 to help the village, which exists in a state of real poverty. This project fits with our ethos of highlighting the value of water, which we take for granted in the UK, whereas the Kalungwishi community rely on the supply of fresh water to live healthy lives. It’s a salient lesson worth remembering. Check out our website to see how you can help us raise funds for Just a Drop.
Back to the New Year’s Resolution
Working with Countrywise can give you the means to help us support Just a Drop, and in our own small way, we think we can really make a difference to this village. If you’d like to make a donation direct, please visit their website here, find out more about what they do and see how you might be able to help. In the meantime, we’re back on treadmill, and looking forward with optimism for the year ahead.
