Hydration, the elderly and the Daily Telegraph

Posted On : 04/12/2013

A couple of days ago the Daily Telegraph carried a damning piece about the number of vulnerable elderly people who die as a result of dehydration and starvation or with those issues as a contributory factor. The article stated that 1,000 care home residents have died of thirst or while suffering severe dehydration over the past decade. This was due to elderly and vulnerable patients being left without enough water despite being under the supervision of trained staff in homes in England and Wales. Dehydration and elderly people is something we have written about previously, while our trade association the British Water Cooler Association is part of the Parliamentary Forum on Hydration which is looking at ways of tackling this issue.
