In a nutshell...... Bottled coolers rely on deliveries of bottled spring water; plumbed-in coolers need to be permanently fitted in.

The water supply comes from 18.5 l or 13 l bottles dropped onto the top of the cooler. They require a 13 amp socket nearby. The bottled coolers are smaller and there is a wider range of styles than the plumbed in coolers. They especially suit reception areas, showrooms and boardrooms, but also temporary situations such as portacabins. There is no doubt that the taste of a glass of spring water from a chilled cooler is quite exceptional. These are usually rented by can also be purchased.

They have a filter fitted to the back or inside the cooler. These remove bad tastes and odours. They filter the water down to 0.5 micron, reducing sediment, chlorine, lead, other heavy metals and cysts. The coolers are rented monthly and all other costs including filter change and sanitisation every six months are rolled into the price, creating a fixed price product.
There are two types of plumbed in cooler: tank fed and direct chill. As the name suggests, the tank fed cooler has a reservoir of water inside the cooler, and the water is stored and chilled in there. There is however a space above with air in it, which, if the cooler is not serviced could make the water taste old. The direct chill cooler chills water as needed by passing it through a super chilled liquid, usually water. This can take up to 25% more energy to run than a tank fed cooler.
Whilst we do everything we can to run the business in an environmentally friendly manner, recycling all plastics, effective route management, etc; there is an argument that overall, plumbed-in coolers are more environmentally friendly.
Both bottled and plumbed-in coolers come with cold and ambient taps or hot and cold taps. If you choose to have a hot and cold cooler, you can use it to make tea, coffee, soups, hot chocolate etc.
Don't be wooed by coolers with ultra violet light! The light needs to be in contact with the water in the internal tank for 48 hours to become effective, yet this doesn't happen in a cooler that is being used regularly; the lamp heats the water thereby using more electricity; the lamps have to be specially disposed of; AND they are expensive!
